Eclipses
A series of Eclipses happen every year, and repeat itself every 18 years in the same sign & degree.
So you can see them as a cycle of energy that echo throughout life as a key-theme of evolution.
Eclipses are characterized by crisis, intensity and peak periods that give birth to major turning points.
The effects are most powerful when the Sun or Moon are conjunct a natal planet or angle.
Any event that occurs within 10 days of an Eclipse will be memorable, however when this occurs in the days before an Eclipse the events tend to be fated and rather unexpected, beyond own control.
Usually when an Eclipse makes an aspect to one of your natal planets, it will take a next trigger (by transit) to activate the energy that the Eclipse stimulated.
Eclipses that occur in your profection sign, to the natal profection ruler or, of the transit profection ruler aspects the eclipse, will have heightened importance, and can manifest big events.
Remember, crisis is the queue towards a new chapter. The essence of crisis is to direct all the focus and attention towards one specific issue that needs to be handled off with, for it’s old, outdated and no longer relevant.
Meaning of Eclipses
They are about karmic events, bringing in chaos, crisis, and are often linked to turning points. But this can only manifest when an Eclipse strongly interacts with your birthchart by conjunction. The deeper meaning of an eclipse is to help you on your soul’s evolution. Everything that happens during or around the timing of an eclipse, happens so you can either release what’s no longer functioning, or to bring in something new that’s life changing. It also helps to break down illusions, by amplifying the matter (crisis) so you have no other choice but to stare at it truthfully.
An eclipse acts as a kick start, a major trigger, therefore it can help us move past any limitations, fears,… if anything has been dragging on for too long, an eclipse can (immediately) change that situation.
When something is taken from you during an eclipse, just remember that this is the universe protecting you, even when it doesn’t feel like that at first. Often when a loss occurs, it’s because it was not meant for you, it was not your person or situation, it did not align with your essence and path. You may come to realize that once the intensity has settled and things calmed down.
Solar eclipse = Fresh start or chapter, major beginning This occurs when there is a new Moon, but on ‘steroids’ A Solar Eclipse’s effects start 3-6 months prior and can last for 1 year Indicate a heightened awareness, mastery, teaching Something has to go, so that something new can arrive A Solar Eclipse is usually more powerful A door that opens Lunar eclipse = Letting go, cutting off the old, major ending This occurs when there is a full Moon, but on ‘steroids’ A Lunar Eclipse’s effects start 6 weeks prior and lasts about 6 weeks. Indicate a lack of awareness or a blind spot, learning Realizations, understanding, culmination, change Culmination of something that already started A door that closes |

Transit Mars or Sun square to a Natal Lunar Node
Whenever an Eclipse occurs on one of the Angles (ASC-IC-DSC-MC) it has huge importance, significance and can bring about major change for good or bad. When an Eclipse (the Moon) occurs on your Natal Sun, it will bring more power to you, however if it’s opposing your natal Sun, power is taken from you through circumstances beyond your control, most of the time.
• An eclipse that occurs on the top half of the natal chart is all about the things you don’t have, the things you desire to achieve, own or manifest. It’s an energy about what’s outside yourself.
• An eclipse that occurs on the bottom half of the natal chart is all about the things you have, and the question of whether to continue or let go, or to level up.
• Any time when an eclipse occurs in a conjunction to your natal Sun or Moon, it signals a major turning point and life event, related to the house, sign and house ruler (sun/moon) that’s activated.
• When an eclipse occurs in a conjunction (orb of 5°) to any other transit planet, than this planet becomes the co-ruler of the eclipse.
How to interpret the Eclipse
Sign of the Eclipse | The sign represents the themes and emotional nature of the event. For example an eclipse in Sagittarius is about seeking truth, your spiritual growth, the experiences that we need in order to better understand something, that what you believe,.. An eclipse in Libra is about harmony, the ways you compromise and balance,.. An Eclipse in Taurus is about values, worth, the ways you nourish your physical body and life, your sensual connections,.. |
Top or Bottom | Eclipse at the top half : things which we don’t have, what you desire to achieve, own or manifest. Things outside of yourself, beyond own control Eclipse at the bottom half : things you have and feel, to let go or to continue, leveling up, emotional transformation |
House overlay of the Eclipse | The natal house where the eclipse occurs (where the Moon will be), is the eclipsed area of life. The themes of that house will be amplified or more on the forefront. It’s magnified. In case of a Lunar eclipse : Always look at where the Sun is by house, for that will show from what area of life things are being highlighted. For example, a lunar eclipse in de 1st house, means the Sun is in the 7th house, therefore other people may be at the roots of bringing something to your attention. |
Ruler of the Eclipse | The planet that rules the Eclipse, will show in what area of life the events tend to play out, it shows who or what is involved. This is seen through the house placement of the transit eclipse ruler. For example : a Solar eclipse in Scorpio is ruled by Mars (and Pluto), look where transit Mars is at the time of the eclipse. Note : Any transit planet that’s conjunct the eclipse degree, is a co-ruler. For example The solar eclipse in Sagittarius on December 14th 2020 had Mercury conjunct, that means Mercury was the co-ruler of the eclipse. |
Conjunctions to natal planets/angles | Amplified themes and issues. Often major events that are memorable. Sun = Expression, identity, authenticity, illuminate, personality, leadership Moon = The past, testing, rebirthing, emotion, needs, instincts, memory Mercury = Speech, thought, distinction, message, information, environment Venus = Value, relationships, aesthetics, money, material goods, karmic love Mars = (Re)Act, decide, move, fight, motive, vitality, desires Jupiter = Truth, explore, heal, study, teach, legal cases, journeys, expanding Saturn = Karmic, breaking(point), loss, responsibility, limitations, overcoming Uranus = Sudden, change, disruptive, fast, shock, innovation, ideas Neptune = Spirit, dreams, sacrifice, loss, fog, clarity, transcending Pluto = Transformation, death, birth, change, crisis, intensity, spiritual value Lilith = Intuition, courage, sexuality, confrontations ASC = Self, body, (re)actions, appearance, direction, outlook on life DSC = Relationships, others, public, official, legal, outlook on relationships MC = Direction of life, public, outside, goals, achievements IC = Deep structure, home, residency, family, introspection All angles connect with new beginnings |
Degree of the Eclipse | I prefer to use the degree theory to determine additional themes. Let’s say the eclipse is at 2° than it ties in with values, self-esteem, sensual connections, consuming, throat,… If the eclipse occur at 0° than it’s about the unknown, a major ne beginning. Eclipse at 15° may involve contracts, traffic, transport, communication, neighbors, peers, reports, documents,… More info |
Modality of the Eclipse | Cardinal = New begin, starting something new, identity Fixed = Self-worth, permanent Mutable = Healing, new experiences |
Transits in Profection | If any transit planet travels through your profection sign, than it acts as a major trigger of event. |
Other major transits | If during an eclipse, other major transits occur, such as conjunctions to natal planets, than these themes become important and influential. This also applies to planetary returns during an eclipse, whatever that planet represents, will be a keytheme. |
Northnode vs Southnode eclipse | When the Moon is conjunct/with the Southnode during an eclipse, it’s about leaving behind old ways, something is not functioning any more and has to go. It represents a time of release. Something is ending, transformation is needed if you wish to continue. Letting go of a pattern. losing something. To release what has been dragging on for too long, is either (abruptly) ended, or given an opportunity to find truth and closure. Things that have been building up for a while. When the Moon is conjunct/with the Northnode during an eclipse, it’s about moving beyond your comfortzone, stepping up, new directions and changes. The things you really desire. To be given an opportunity. Something new comes in. taking something. To gain, receive. Doing what you need to do. |
Two eclipses in 1 month | Often an indication of a major event. Something important, changes are very likely as well as on a global scale. |
Prenatal Eclipse
This is the last eclipse that took place prior to your birth. Wherever this eclipse occurs by sign and house in comparison to your natal chart, is an emphasized theme in your life. That means if an eclipse happened at 13° Sagittarius only a few months before you were born, than this particular degree in the natal house occupied by Sagittarius is one of major importance and influence throughout your entire life.
• Every 18 years you’ll experience a prenatal eclipse return
this brings crisis and turning points, and has a karmic load. Any time when an eclipse occurs in this same sign it can trigger events that are to be remembered. Key years are indicated by the prenatal eclipse return at the ages 18 and 36.
• The prenatal eclipse degree can be interpreted as an individual ‘planetary energy’ or ‘point’ in the natal chart which is equally sensitive to transits, progressions, revolutions,.. as any other planet in your natal chart. So pay close attention to when a planet is especially conjunct to this point.
• If a prenatal eclipse is conjunct to any of your personal planets or angles, the energy will be even more prominent throughout life. An undeniable theme. Lets say you had a prenatal Lunar eclipse conjunct the Descendant, than relationships and marriage could undergo major crisis and endings.
The ruler of the eclipse in aspect to any of your natal planets can indicate what influences these turning points. If it’s a Venus opposition to Neptune, it’s about deception in love.
• The element of the sign is about the traits one has to learn to develop correctly. It is said that the prenatal eclipse has a strong linkage to past lives and the evolution of incarnations.
• The house of the prenatal eclipse is about how we learn and get our lessons which have a karmic load. What or who is involved within these lessons and experiences. it’s where the ‘weakness’ is.
• The aspects of the prenatal eclipse describe the skills, potentials, struggles and challenges that come with the karmic ‘debt’ and lessons.
But what if you’re born a few days before an eclipse? So the first eclipse that happens right after your birth. This point has similar energy to the prenatal eclipse as i believe.
Wherever the postnatal eclipse occurs through sign and house within your natal chart, is an area of life that is on the forefront too and could be connected to the prenatal eclipse in terms of how these major themes relate and influence each other.
